Learning in the Work Setting (30 credits at level HE5)
Module Description
You will look at your learning in the context of how it impacts on not only yourself and your personal workplace practice, but also how it impacts on others and the organisation. In addition the course aims to develop your understanding of how organisational plans and priorities also influence your learning.
You will consider how your learning from critical reflections, action inquiries and literature reviews have directly impacted on your working environment. You will gain understanding of the effect your study has had specifically when related to others and your organisation as a whole.
Module content will be appropriate to individuals in their work setting and will be supported by learning
facilitators who will help students identify appropriate methodology in order to achieve the module
outcomes.
This is a web delivered distance learning module. Students will need to have access to the internet to access learning resources, participate in the online learning community and submit their electronic portfolio for assessment.
All key resources will be available online. In addition many key resources will be work context specific and defined during the planning of the learning activities, with the support of the learning facilitator taking into account the student’s work context.
Outline Content
- Discuss literature about how organisations learn and develop
- Review your workplace PDP/create a workplace PDP if none exists
- Identify the demands, competencies, standards etc of the work setting;
- Describing how the learning needs of self and colleagues are met within the work setting e.g. reviewing your organisation’s development plan;
- Reflect critically on your own workplace learning;
- Analysing how your own workplace learning is related to the organisation’s learning/development.
